Our short term goal is to funds to plan and host the annual Sambro Sou'Wester Days, our annual festival celebrating the rich history of Sambro and our Sambro Island Lighthouse. Held the weekend after the Natal Day weekend in August, it is a long time favourite which draws an ever increasing crowd from near and far each year. We love to see old friends come home to reconnect, as well as meet new friends who are just discovering our little corner of paradise. Check out our Events tab for more info!
Our long term goal is to build and maintain a full service community centre for the area. This will allow use by local clubs, groups, and individuals for many events: such as weddings, birthday and anniversary parties, meetings, health and wellness services, support groups, classes, local business expos and more, including the option for licensed events.
Having our own permanent building would also mean the success of our annual Sou'Wester Days Festival would be less weather dependent - always a risk in Nova Scotia!
This year SACA implemented the Sambro Spirit Awards, which are awarded to up to three individuals or businesses each year in recognition of their outstanding work within the community. The three recipients of 2017 were Danny Gray, Catherine Banks, and Skip Horton.
